I find Geeklog very hard to set up

I am having troubles. I have spent a lot of time trying to get static pages to work, but they don't show up.

My site is: http://www.chchpc.org.nz/

How do I get a static page to show up under one of the Topics menu items (that I choose).

What exactly are you trying to do? You can't have static pages listed in the Topics block, see About the Topics block

You can assign a Static Page to a Topic as a Center Block either at the Top of Page, After Featured Article or Bottom of the Page or the Entire Page.

However, when I go to this link and link on the link "Tom Willet's Menu plugin" it appears to be broken.

Yeah, looks like Tom's site is down (the Geeklog Wiki, which is also hosted by Tom, doesn't work either).

Either wait for the site to come back online or search the usual places (e.g. squatty.com) for copies of the Menu plugin.

The menu plugin site is now back up. I have downloaded okay.

I read the INSTALL file and find this statement:
"- Runs on Geeklog version 1.3.6"

Does this mean that it will run on a later version also? Banging your head

Now that I have the Menu plugin installed, how do I use it?

Firstly, after installation, are the menus supposed to change? Mine didn't.

Then, I found a Menu Editor link under the Admins Only section. Making changes to this doesn't make any changes to the menus either.

Does the Menu plugin work with Geeklog 1.3.11?

I have found out that you need to ENABLE the plugin after installing it. This _is_ no doubt somewhere in all the documentation for Geeklog, but wouldn't it have been so simple to include it as a final step in the Installation Instructions.

For those who need a little more info on how to enable a plugin once you have finished installing it according to the INSTALL instruction that is contained in the MENU package:
1. Go to the Admins Only menu
2. Click on Blocks
3. Under the column labelled Block Title you should see a Menu entry
4. Look across to the column labelled Enabled (on the right hand side)
5. Put a checkmark in the Enabled box for the Menu block
6. Go to Admins Only and click on Menu Editor entry

To understand how to create sub-menus you MUST read the README file in the installation package. It requires a special format and numbering of the menu items.

Hope this helps someone to stop wacking their heads against that brick wall. Wink
