Newly-installed GL, only Filemgmt, Squatty's Menu, and SPAW editor installed, the latter not forcing me to modify a theme - I installed when using WebSide theme.

First use of "Reply" button (beside the Refresh button) on a story works. Any subsequent use doesn't work (kicks user back to front page), the user (unregistered, registered or even admin) has to use the "Reply to this" link under an existing comment.

I saw Dirk's reply (compare /coment/....thml to a "working" theme) on this type of question in another thread, so I changed the theme from WebSide to the bog-standard (pristine) Professional theme, did all the user preference changes, then tried unregistered, registered and admin users again. No difference. The two themes are quite different, and I'm not that knowledgeable in HTML, so the "comparison" revealed nothing lucid to me and I chose to just go to the standard Professional theme as an acid/known test.

Am I missing something here? I could have sworn it was working before on a test version I had up a few days ago, same WebSide theme (others, too).

Try replacing the entire "comment" directory of your theme with the one from the professional theme.

FWIW, I'm using the WebSide.info theme on a site running off the current CVS code and that was all I had to do to get the comments working.

bye, Dirk

Thanks for the quick respnse, Dirk. No, I didn't think it was a theme problem since, as noted above, I made the default and personal themes "Professional", and that had no effect. But I did what you suggested, and the same effect.

I must have been mistaken about the "first time through, the Reply button works" statement. Further testing reveals it doesn't work at all in any theme, first time through or later. I thought it might be a cookie thing, so I reset the cookie names back to GL default ... I plan to run 2 or 3 GL's so wanted to have different cookies in case that interferes with user experiences. No difference, either unregistered, registered, or Admin as user.

No, I think that it is the SPAW implementation that I followed in a thread on this site, that has fouled up the comment part. I can't see the filemanagement plugin doing it, nor the Menu plugin, so it must be SPAW. Pity. I did like how it helped in the stories. You probably saw it, but the SPAW implementation "how-to" link is here, down at the MEvans post:

So what I will do now is either back out the SPAW changes, or regen GL from start. I've been at this since June 3rd, so one more day won't make a difference. I still have the forum to install. I did the phpBB2 thing on the test system and it worked rather well but for some minor formatting things. This time I will try the GL-inspired forum version (the one here).

I see that you guys are working to put FCK into GL2. Would it be worth my time to try to put it into my 1.3.11 version here, or is it too finicky? I really need something more than always inserting html tags into every story ... it's a bear with tables, indents, bullets, numbering, etc.

OK, I backed out all the SPAW changes/hacks, and the "Reply" button is working again. Onwards and upwards. Thanks.
