whith plugin Double columns
A simple hack to allow single or double columns on your index page. Set a single variable in your config.php, add three template files to your theme, and replace your index.php. Remember to keep your old index.php around just in case!!! The index.php included is from 1.3.10rc2, which has not been tried with 1.3.9 series

But i cant read the .DS_Store file
can any anyone tell me what is the variable which need to include
in config.php

thks

.DS_Store is a "hidden" Mac file. Disregard it...shouldn't be there.

As for what to tweak in config...you got me. Email the author.

If you look here there is a complete explanation. Sorry, I seem to have missed the readme file from the package - I'll resubmit it to the downloads with an updated index.php for 1.3.10.

Cheers,

Euan.

I think this is a very nice idea with 2 columns. I was just looking for something like that. Will it be updated for 1.4.1 ? I tried to compare the index files but there are many differences an I am no programmer. Thanks!
BTW would it be possible to produce 2 columns on the frontpage only?

Hmmm. At a guess, index.php has changed quite a lot. I'd have to look into it again...

Double columns on the front page only would be doable. Just have to check which page you're on when you call the template.

Cheers,

Euan.

Thanks!!!

You see, Mambo used to have an easy switch which made the stories on the front page show in "T" shape. So there was 1 featured article and below it 2 columns of normal stories on the front page. One might produce this with 1 static page article and below it the stories in 2 columns.

It looked a bit like this: http://pr40.s003-r01h10.ec-c.net/ Though technically here I just put a table into the featured story to make it look like a "T" layout.

As for me the ideal would be either 2 columns or a "T" layout but both only on the front page. It could become plugin of the year (after the podcast plugin...)

In Geeklog 1.4.1, you may be able to do that without any hacks. There's a new variable, {story_counter}, available in all the story templates. It's 1 for the first story, 2 for the second, etc. (and 0 on article.php). You can then use something like

class="myclass{story_counter}"

and in your stylesheet push myclass1..myclass5 to the left and myclass6..10 to the right (and then figure out how the latter start at the top of the page again - oops, that could be a problem).

HTH

bye, Dirk

With a static page and some div's or tables a T layout must possible, perhaps the next 7 stories block can be of any help for you. Euan's hack does the same but will be faster I guess.

Thanks for your help. I think this would be a welcome new feature of GL 1.4.1 or later. I just found the typical Mambo / Joomla example again: http://www.mambohut.com/templates_demo/

There is one "welcome" article and then the 2 column design continues. As far as I remember there was a switch in the configuration. So if Euan would manage a 1,2,T variable in the config, GREAT!!!
