Are site statistics available in variables somewhere?

I'm looking to put a hit-counter on the home page, and figured I might as well use the integrated stats engine - but haven't seen where I might pick up these values. Are these values accessible somewhere other than the stats page itself?

Thanks,

Joel

I have a hit counter on one of my sites, using the method I found either on this forum or Squatty.com

I am in a rush, so I can't search it for you. But, just to let you know that what you are asking is possible and someone has done it.

The total number of hits is available from the gl_vars table, where name = 'totalhits'.

Thanks. I've poked around with awstats, and it's past what I'm after for this task. What is analog, and where would I find it?

I guess my initial shot was to use the GL internal counter, not because it provides lots of info, but because it would be server-independent. I'd like to just have a simple hit counter on the home page - and using the internals means I don't have to adapt it for different hosting providers and servers. The point of that hit counter is not necessarily to be 'accurate', but frankly to drive usage. Big, constantly growing number drives interest and gets people to participate more. (Ok, this is a marketing view, but hey - without participation and community isn't a community!)

Thanks,

Joel

Just checked that out. Neat tool, and 'surprisingly fast'.

Thanks,

Joel
