External RSS/RDF Feed problem

Greetings -

I'm having trouble with loading RSS/RDF feeds from two different sources. I currently have two feeds from different locations that suddenly stopped working. I'm able to access both feeds directly via a web broswer and using another site (2RSS.com), but not into my Geeklog Portal blocks. Both blocks had been working flawlessly up until today. Wonder if anyone else has experienced the same or has any suggestions.

I have had exactly the same problem, starting at the same time. All of my feeds are not working. The error log merely states that "Geeklog cannot reach the feed at ......"

I have no idea why this suddenly happened and no idea how to resolve the problem. Any help would be gratefully received.

Cheers, CW.

I am also having this problem! All my external feeds have stopped working at the same time.

Since all of them stopped working at the same time, I suspect a permissions problem ... what directories need to be writeable for Portal blocks to work? I created a new test block and it doesn't work.

I don't believe that directory permissions has anything to do with this issue since the newsfeed data is stored in the 'gl_blocks' table, not in the filesystem. If it was a permissions issue on the external sites, then the RDF/RSS files wouldn't be accessible via mechanisms other than Geeklog.

My best hypothesis so far (but I can't prove/test/fix it) is that this has to do with the DTD associated with each newsfeed, ie. the XML DTD isn't being loaded fast enough so Geeklog gives up.

Here's a few more details on my situation...

ISP - Pair Networks (same as the main Geeklog site)
Geeklog v. 1.3.8 (I know, I know...)
Problem Newsfeeds -
http://www.flightweb.com/classifieds/classifieds.rdf
http://myrss.com/f/e/m/emsnetworkCurrentNews2Vx05vf1.rss

Hope this helps.

OK, I found the solution to the problem in an older forum post. Please refer to

this thread.

This fixed the problem for me, so I hope it works for everyone else too.

I'll try that ... possible that my ISP made a change to PHP ... hope that works!

Anyone know a way to force GL to poll RSS its feeds, so I don't have to wait 30 min to test?

The php_flag in .htaccess fixed it. Thanks!

I am having the same problem for more than a week now. I think my ISP has updated the PHP. Unfortunately I cannot remember which version I was on before to confirm.

I use a cron job running on my server to extract some headlines from sites which do not have RSS feeds. I store them in a web accessible location and then get it in to geeklog using the blocks. Even these feeds cannot be read by geeklog now. The actual RDF files get updated, but geeklog doesn't read them.

I checked the allow_url_fopen using the info.php in install directory and it is set to 'on'.

Tried the .htaccess suggestion also. But doesn't seem to work. You add .htaccess to the public_html directory right?
