$_CONF['path'] loses initial '/'

determined
in my config.php, i have = '/home/......./';
with the correct path. But when I load the configinfo.php page, it lists the path as 'home/....../' (without the beginning '/'). This created the common problem with the lib-database line 110 error, so I manually added a '/' . before the require_once() call, which solved that problem. Now, I get:

Template Error: set_root: home/......../system/install_templates is not a directory.
Halted.

Again, the path is correct, but without the initial '/'.
Is there a way I can make it stay in the config setting?

Also, I just copied a fresh config.php and lib-common.php from the tarball when the error first started appearing. Before that, the install would run fine, but give a blank success.php, blank check.php, and blank index.php, and also no entries in the log file.
Thanks,
Aarin

Okay, I seemed to have gotten part of the problem, I just manually added '/' . before each call to $_CONF['path'] in the respective files where I kept getting an error. Now the install has no errors, but the success page is still blank, as well as every other page. The paths and permissions all appear to be correct as well. Is there something else I should check?

Thanks
