Where do I change the menu description of plugins?
ie. from "My Downloads" to "Downloads", "My Geekbook" to "Guestbook".

Those entries are provided by the plugins, so it's either in a function called plugin_getmenuitems_pluginname in the plugin's functions.inc or in the plugin's language file.

In the case of the filemgmt plugin, you can change the name that appears in the plugins language file

$LANG_FILEMGMT['downloads']
