I put in the location in the description of the event, but when viewed, the "Where" is always blank...????

Which theme are you using?

The {event_location} variable was missing from the calendar/eventdetails.thtml template file for several versions and it's possible that not all themes have been updated accordingly. Try copying over that file from one of the default themes.
