Well I know I do and I am sure a lot of other people do as well, we use Geeklog for news. I am running an ever growing Fantasy Genre news site and would like the people who post and submit news to be able to add a source to their news. Whether it be a url or just the title of the page where they got the news from. Does anyone know or have an idea of how I would go about doing such a thing?

This sounds like a good idea... as i've said before, not everyone knows html. I used a forum that had an 'add link' button which you press and a javascript popup appears. A very handy thing for those that dont understand code, but would like to contribute to the site

Could you just have them enter the source as an HTML link at the top or bottom of the story?

Thats how its being done on my site now, just a plain url, so whoever wants to go to the link has to copy and paste it to the browser address bar.

The last site I built was a portal hack from a forum, that had the java popup feature on it and I found the users did add hyperlinks, but since I moved to geeklog, I've noticed theres not alot of them putting refering links on their story's.

It makes me sometimes wonder if one day I'm going to get an email from an angry webmaster thats not happy about a story being used, without any thanks or credits at the bottom of it.

I know it sounds a bit extreme, but stranger things have happened Confused If theres no reference, how do I know where the news / story / feature came from originally?

Well, if you know HTML and PHP, you could add a textbox to the story submission page. This could hold a URL to the source. Then, when they click submit, you could write a small function that takes that URL, and appends a link to that site to the bottom or top of the story.
