Which Gallery is best?

Well...best for MY purposes anyways. I have a large site for car collectors. I want to install a Geeklog integrated gallery and let users go nuts.

I like Gallery, but it crashed on me and stranded my users. IT's a GREAT script, but it's really better for those who are doing the gallery by themselves, not letting a couple hundred users use it.

I like 4images, but to make albums for my users I have to do that manually. That's kind of a hassle. But, it works great for multiple users in general.

Are there any other real options? I also want the gallery to have a random photo block (like both of the above do).

I'm probably going to stick with 4images for my users, but also install Gallery for admin use only. I just wanted to see if there were any new contenders out there in Geeklogland.

Thanks,

Scott

my upage plugin will have photos in the next release due in a week or two. you can try it here https://secure.neap.net/upage/

I do not yet have a help file for the new photos stuff, but will try to update the one on that site sometime in the next 24 hours.

The main purpose of the photos addition to upages is to allow photo upload for inclusion in your pages so it does not do multiple albums. But there are some things you can do to simulate albums. Right now you can put [pic]photo.jpg[/pic] in your pages to include one in your page. Sometime maybe tonight I'll be adding [pics]photo1.jpg,photo2.jpg,photo3.jpg[pics] which will list them nice and pretty in a table, and should allow the simulation of albums.

After I get this out, I'll be starting a stand-alone 'upic' plugin based on the above code, and it will be a full-blown gallery replacement with multiple albums. With some luck I may even have that out in a month but we'll see.

cheers,
-Alan

p.s. I'll try to get a random photo block done tonight, as per your request. I wasn't planning on doing that til the full plugin, but it will only take 10 minutes so I'll do it now. You'll see a block on that site appear with random photos, once it is done.

Hey Alan,

Yeah, I just saw that plugin. Looks great, I can't wait to try it out.

Maybe that's the best answer...just have a normal photo gallery for basic photos (different years of the cars, accessories, shows, etc) and then allow people to build their own pages with their own photos with your module.

I'm planning on doing a fresh install this weekend, so I'll try it out! Once I get it running, I'll be happy to offer my testing. I tend to break stuff. Smile

ok, i've added [pics] so you can specify a list of comma-separated photos to be displayed in a table. See my sample page on the site for what it looks like
