I have added http://rss.asdf.dk/dr-sport.rss to the RDF URL field, but I get an error

(GeekLog can not reach the supplied RDF file at 2003-11-26 18:28:41. Please double check the URL provided. Make sure your url is correctly entered and it begins with http://. GeekLog will try in one hour to fetch the file again.)

The block is a portal block

Hope you can help me.

/Michael.

Well, the error message really says it all ...

Did you try entering the URL for the RSS file in your browser? It seems to work from here (now), though. Maybe the server was down or slow when Geeklog tried to read the file.

bye, Dirk

I get the same problem. I am trying to use rss feeds and I get the same error. I have resorted to using javascript calls in static pages but would prefer to use the rss feed.

Is it because the feed I want to use is in xml format and not .rss or .rdf? If this is the case, how do I get this to work in a block/portal?

One of the URLs in question that gives the error above:
http://www.mikeshea.net/newsfeeds/eq_developer.xml

RSS and RDF are XML-based formats, so that is not the problem (you would get a parse error if Geeklog couldn't read the format of the feed).

FWIW, the feed works just fine for me here locally.

Some feeds are a bit flaky or the server responses are slow. In another thread, there was also speculation about a possible bug in PHP itself that caused the problem.

AFAICS, it is not a problem in Geeklog.

bye, Dirk

The feed also works fine for me - just not if I try to use it in a GL block. Maybe the server its on is having issue reaching externally. I'll check.

O.k., I have tried both http://rss.asdf.dk/dr-sport.rss and http://www.mikeshea.net/newsfeeds/eq_developer.xml
in a block on my site... both work.

Is "Block Type" set to portal block (nevermind I see that you have it as that in your first post). Are the addresses correct in the RDF URL section? Do you have a Block Name without spaces and is unique from other blocks on your site?

That's about the only things I can come up with... sorry

The only way I can get it to work is bye using this script.

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript SRC=http://www.wcc.vccs.edu/services/news/channel.asp?c=http://sportenkort.com/feeds/rss.xml></SCRIPT>
