Hi all,

I'm having a problem with Geeklog 1.3.8-sr2 with a user that has "Story Admin" permissions, but cannot go in and edit a story after they have created it. It gives the "you cannot edit this story... this has been logged" error message. Yet the "Story List" page says the user has Edit access to the story when logged in.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? The root user has no problem editing stories.

Check the topic permissions - the user also needs edit permissions for the topic.

And, yes, the permissions column in the list of stories is confusing. I think I already fixed that in CVS (need to double-check) ...

bye, Dirk

I understand this logic, but just wonder if this is working against user-friendliness?

Shouldn't the story owner at least be able to edit his or her own story as long as he or she has the story editor permission?

Another confusing element is that the 'edit' link should not be there if a person is not allow to edit that topic.

I remember this was one of my first questions too. Maybe it would be more "user-friendly" to make "logged-in-users" the default group when a new topic is being created?

Would be less problematic.

I think that would compromise the security. But, maybe I should test it out.

I rather meant as default setting like it is now the block admin. Off course you can alter it as "logged-in-users" is not always ideal.

If it stays with block admin as default then those typical problems arise that the story admin can't access it. An alternative would be that story admin becomes default but I think this is not possible because if the block admin is not also a story admin then he can't add the group story admin. But he will always be a member of "logged-in-users", as far as I understand the system.
