I installed (to some extent) the custom user info hack

However, I'm a n00b to this an although I'm getting used to using php, I have no clue about mysql Frown

I seemed to have put the hack in but made a mess of my SQL DB and now nobody can sign up and I cant edit users.

Everything else seems to have went ok (I have the menu link in the user settings block) but I need some help with the database

Anyone with a heart and 5 mins spare?

Why don't you post more information about your problem (i.e. what exactly is going wrong, what error messages you get, etc.)?

Hey guys Smile

I decided to re-install anyway - the site is not open to the public yet, so i thought it wouldnt make much difference - and they say practice makes perfect. Big Grin

I'll try the custom user hack first, before I install any of the other hacks, that way if I get it wrong it will be easier to work out where the problem lies.

Thanks for the offers on the help, no doubt I will be back before long to ask again (and this next time I wont be in such a mess - I installed a few hacks at once, so wouldnt know where the error was on the last panic)

Ok, just remember to make lots of database backups. That way, if there is another problem, it will be relatively easy to just roll-back the last change you made instead of having to start over.

Before I roll my sleeves up again and get busy with the custom user hack, I thought I might ask about what I'm trying to eventually get to with it.

I'm trying to set up a website where artists can freely promote themselves. The groups part of GL will seperate these people perfectly. I'm planning on using a static page as a sub menu page, that way visitors to the site can just go to the list of artists and choose which one(s) they want to view. The link that is chosen will then link to another static page with the artists custom details on it. I also had a thought of having a block on the index with 'featured artists' in it, to those with say a picture or who have most recently updated thier details.

So..

before I start on what seems to me like a mammoth task, is it possible to do with geeklog, and is there any ways that geeklog can make it easier to manage (i think the menu static page will have to be updated manually unless there is a way of getting the info from the DB )

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

I think it will work perfectly, take a look at my site at http://www.ackerman-family.com I have a static page for each person then posts are relevant to that line.

A featured artist block wouldn't be a problem either.

Hi ronack Smile

I took a look at your site, its kind of the thing I want to do, but I want to get away from doing anything manualy. The reason I got rid of my last site/portal/forum/cms was because there was over 30 artists emailing me with new info to update on the site - weekly

Did you have to do any coding to get your site the way it is, or did you use hacks/plugins from the site... and if yes, which ones did you use
