Hi Guys, I was trying to personalize/customize my site. I was directed to use the themes for customization. When I opened the header.thtml, I did not have a clue as to what to edit. The copy of the header.thtml is below. If I want to remove the logo and insert a new one, where do I start. I am sorry if this is not the right forum to ask the question, and by te way I am using TEXTPAD to do my edit.. Thank you in advance {page_title} var cleared = 0; function clearField(field) { if (cleared != 1) { field.value = \"\" cleared = 1 } else { cleared = 0 } } {plg_headercode} {site_name} {site_slogan} Homepage | {button_contribute} | {button_links} | {button_calendar} | {button_personalize} | {button_polls} | {button_search} | {button_sitestats} {plg_menu_elements} {left_blocks}

Well, I was assuming some knowledge of HTML ... Instead of trying to post the header.thtml file here (which, as you may have noticed, doesn\'t work anyway) just tell us the name of the theme you\'re working on. bye, Dirk

Sorry about that guys.. Funny enough, in my config.php file, the default theme is XSilver, but I have changed the look to Smooth_Blue. So what I tried copying to my previous message was smooth_blue. Thanks for your help Ola

In the Smooth_Blue header.thtml, this is where the logo is loaded:
Text Formatted Code
<img src="{layout_url}/interface/logo-geeklog.gif" alt="" border="0" align="left">
'layout_url' is a Geeklog variable pointing to the base URL for the current theme. So you can either replace the file interface/logo-geeklog.gif with your own logo or change the URL in the img tag to point to your logo. bye, Dirk

Thanks a lot Dirk, I do not know how you do it, but your responses have just been awesome. I was able to change the top banner of my newly geeked site. But I am still stucked with the default menu bars - Topics, Iser Funcrions, Events, Who\'s online, about geeklog, vote and what;s new. I am now trying to change those headings and then add more content via links under each menu item. For instance, I want topic to be \"In the News\" and right now I have two items under Topics, I want it to be up to 5... Where do I begin? On my homepage, I see the following links (Homepage, Get Published, links, calendar....) I clicked on the links and was able to add a couple of links to USA Today, and My Picture Gallery which is still on localhost. However, I do not see the links on the homepage after I finished. But when I click on links, I can see them and if I click on the Picture galley, I get to it... I hope I have not rambled on too much. Please give me some guidance.... Thank you

These are block titles and you can simply edit them in the Admin\'s block editor.

Well then, obviously, you need to create a new topic (again, from the Admin menu).

The links section is there to collect links to other site. Those won\'t show up in the menu. New links should show up in the What\'s New block, though (but will disappear from there after some time). If you want to add permanent links to your homepage, you will either have to add them in the header.thtml or you could create a \"normal\" block and put them in there. bye, Dirk

[/QUOTE]5,936,643 Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but I opened the Admin Block Editor, and there is no item there that references any of the block titles... Is there some coding necessary on my part? The following are the first 2 lines of my blockeditor.thtml {start_block_editor} Would creating a new topic also involve editing a line or adding a line? Finally if I am writing a permanent link to my site, the following is the only line that referenced links in my header.thtml, is that where I do the edits or am I better off using the normal blocks as you suggested and if I use the normal block, do I save it as a .thtml file, and where do I save it? {button_links} | I am really sorry about this...But I trully lack some understanding....

Err, did you try to edit the template file? That\'s not necessary. I was suggesting you go to the Admin Block editor from the Admin block, directly in Geeklog. Not editing any template files ... The blocks and their titles are stored in the database and you can edit them through the Admin\'s block editor.

Same thing here. It\'s done in Geeklog, not in the template files.

Depends on the link, I\'d say. If it\'s a link that makes sense next to those which are already there, then add it to the menu. If you have a group of links, or if that link may need to be changed, then a normal block may make more sense (the \"Resources\" block here on the site is an example of such a block). For details, can I point you to the FAQ entries I just wrote yesterday: How do I change the menu? and What are the different block types for? Hope that explains things better. bye, Dirk

I\'m trying to insert a rotating banner script in place of the logo. The banner script is written in cgi. I\'ve tried several places to insert it and always throws the header design out of whack. Where would I insert a cgi script?
