A Use for the External Page Plugin?

My site currently has an intro page named index.html. You click on a link and it takes you to the GL site. I am using just a plain html page to do this and it works - okay. TWO PROBLEMS: 1. when I review the visitor stats (visitor stat plugins) all of the referral information has \"index.html,\" because indeed that external page is what refers users to the site. 2. I also have a \"login\" link on the initial page that links to the login GL screen. Should the user click back to the initial html screen, the \"login\" link should really say \"Logout\" (since the user hasn\'t logged out.) The second problem is not very important. But I was wonder if using the external page plugin would solve these issues? Thanks!

Hmm, I don't really think you'd need to use external pages at all. How about changing your intro page into a static page with no blocks? If you have GL 1.3.8, Staticpages 1.3 has this built in. If you haven't upgraded yet and want to go about it the old way anyways, here are some earlier threads about splash pages: here, here, and here For your login/logout link, use this code: (The code tag added
Text Formatted Code
<br />
after every line when I tried posting this as code, so I just linked it instead. Must be a forum bug?)

Hey, thanks. That was a real help. I made the splash page a static page, then hacked Index.php to call it (this created a few program flow problems, but I managed to solve them). The only thing is, after a few days experimentation, I am coming to the conclusion that I can\'t embed php code within a static page. So using the login/logout toggle that Dirk posted seems to be impossible. Frown (am I correct here?) But at least the most important problem was solved! Big Grin THANKS!

np. Actually, you can use php in static pages. You\'ll need to code the entire page in php for it to work tho. You can\'t mix html and php I think. The Static Pages Doc has more info you should read. if you name a static page frontpage with nonews, it\'ll display as a main splash page without further tweaking.
