This doesn't answer your question. If you want to embed php links all by itself into geeklog like phpBB or gallery you can probably figure out how to do that by reading posts on how the others did it. IF you're curious how to get the same functionality we're going to implement heirarchical categories in 1.4 and that will make the link interface much better than the current version. I've written a "permission-less" application similar to php links but I don't do url pass thru's for voting and other stuff. You can see it here: http://pdemo.dr3amscap3.com/ (demo/demo, test/test). I'll probably try to use most of this (tree building and link structure) in building 1.4 There are some user interface things that might need to change to make it more usable (picking 1 or more categories for it to be in initially) or less usable (making more required fields). One of my biggest pushes though is that link categories will probably relate to story topics or photo albums or something else. Maybe there won't be a perfect 1:1 match for everything, but enough should match that it makes sense to use the same tree (you might not have to see every category if you only want stories in 2 topics, and links in 50). Sorry I was less helpful than you probably expected.

If you just want the phpLinks to integrate into the interface, you'd open the 404.php in the site root and use that as the basis... take (from 404.php): .... include_once('/path/to/lib-common.php'); $display = COM_siteHeader('menu'); $display .= COM_startBlock('phpLinks'); //Note the echo below has to be added here echo $display; .... and put it in the start of the header.php of phpLinks (in the /phplinks/themes/original/). Then remove the lines that create the <head></head> portion of the index.php (also <body> tag) to prevent the "headers already sent" error and take: .... $display .= COM_endBlock(); $display .= COM_siteFooter(); echo $display .... from the 404.php and apply it to the end of the footer.php in /phplinks/themes/original/ Now it SHOULD work.. Note that I'm not 100% sure of this as I myself did it a bit more complicated way so I'd get the right blocks on the phplinks... You can check out the results @ http://www.looneysweb.com/phplinks/

yEAH! That'd be great. Integrating a decent links directory, ideally (well, ideally like phpLinks) with reviews, a few levels, ability to double enter, or alias a link in more than one category, and have that - link, description, review, connect both ways with the the main news, would be over the top!

Juat checked out Plinks - it's cool. Bookmarker I ended up with after trying/installing endless links gear, looking for on the fly capturing from the Web to the Web. Never got it up and running though. (I can do that with a Links 2 add-on Gossamer-Threads, amazing contributed mods collection...)

Thank you for posting this suggestion - I have recently installed both Geeklog and phplinks and am now trying to integrate the two (as a non-coder). I followed these instructions to the letter, including removing the <block> tags (but not the content in between) and all content within the <head> tags, but I get the header error message. I have checked for spaces after ?> at the end of lib-common.php and other files, but cannot trace the fault - did this work for anyone else following these instructions or did you amend these instructions slightly? I managed to get phplinks to appear in the page, with header, footer and left hand blocks but with the header error messages and no content - any ideas how to get it to work and also have the right hand blocks as well? Many thanks for any advice given - I have had both packages working well separately and am very impressed with what they offer - if I can get them both to play nicely together, it is going to save me hours updating my website and look very professional!

I've been working on a "complete" phplinks/geeklog solution. I plan on releasing the code/hack sometime next week. If you're interested check out my site.

I have a few updates to make to the admin interface. Other than that "everything" is completely integrated...search, stats, all core gl submission/admin features :-)
