Since many users use vbulletin as a solid base for their forums i would suggest a plugin for vbulletin.

VBulletin is a solid BB, but you won't find too much effort to integrate it into open source software like GL. VB's license prevents people from distributing any version of it, so any hacks or mods have to be listed in a document and you have to mod it yourself off the doc. Imagine the support headache when a newbie is expected to modify 10 or 20 files for complete integration. ----- --Matty

thanks matty, i agree to your comments. However most users here are not newbie, it even takes knowledge to install geeklog that lift the user above the newbie status. I would suggest this feature to be open, i already investigated some structures vbulletin use for the save of the data, one problem is that i myself are more a designer and i still learn php. It would be a snap for the heavy php programmers here to develop a plugin, with wich, geeklog would become even more intersting. Perhaps its possible to write a php script that interacts with the vbulletin database and retreive data like forum posts and threads, this would safe anyone from having to edit the vbulletin files.

I would also consider w-agora which is an open source, freeware, reliable, flexible, highly customisable discussion engine. One of the (many) great things about it is that a large degree of customisation is available to non-programmers through the use of templates and several admin options. w-agora is available at http://www.w-agora.net. w-agora has a large and active user and developer community. Actually most of the people that are willing to spend the money on a BB like vbulletin know that the hacks are done by the user and even Jelsoft make sure the users are aware that they take doing hacks into their own hands. Someone would just have to make sure there is no implied support for it.

We have a vBulletin site and are looking at changing to w-Agora.

What is involved in moving the database over?

I would name my first born after the person that made a plugin for Vbulletin. I know I agree with pascal that most of the users here aren't newbies and would be more then willing to hack their VB install to get geeklog working with their forum
