Hi. First I would like to thank everyone who is making Geeklog available to public. Without you I could never have such a wonderful site. I have a problem and would like your advice. I can use Japanese in editing story and making polls etc. when I select Japanese language in Yahoo theme. However, when I switch to other themes such as classic theme, Japanese texts get garbled. I mean the characters get messed up. Some themes are really multilingual, while others are not? What are the differences?

Hard to say. Under the other themes is Japanese getting messed up only in certain areas or across the whole page? If it's only certain areas, what are they?

Thank you for your response. I just figured it out. I just needed to change the font style in style.css because western fonts cannot show the Japanese fonts properly. So I just removed the font style. ----------------------------------------- layout/clean/style.css line 117~121 input { color: #000033; background-color: #dde3ef; font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; font- weight: plain; } TEXTAREA { color: #000033; font-size: 10px; font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Arial; background-color: #dde3ef }

the japanese.php language file included with geeklog is encoded in EUC_JP, but most input input as straight UTF-8 unicode. save the language/japanese.php file in unicode with some unicode editor (notepad in Windows 2000 or XP works, as does Microsoft Word 2000, and many more), or get a modified version from my site here: http://www.localsteve.cc/files/utf8-japanese.php copy this file into the language directory and when you choose a language, select utf8-japanese instead. now change the default charset variable $_CONF['default_charset'] in config.php to 'utf-8'. also make sure the following line is the public_html/layout/Yahoo/header.thtml file: <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset={charset}"> hope this helps. steVe
