After upgrading my working 1.3.7 installation to 1.3.7sr1 I cannot edit and save stories as StoryAdmin.I receive an error message that I don't have access to the story administration page and that all attempts are logged.

Same here - and submissions queue says (1) but clicking gets an empty queue.

As a meta comment to all of the above: We have tightened security on the story admin pages somewhat in 1.3.7 and 1.3.7sr1. On the page listing the stories, check the "Access" column carefully. You may not have "Edit" access to all of the stories. When it says "read-only" or "none", you will get the "access denied" message when you try to edit the story. Actually, stories with access "none" shouldn't be listed there in the first place - this is on my to-do list for 1.3.8. Also, the number of submissions and stories noted on the menu entries in the Admin menu may differ from the actual number of submissions or stories that you see on the moderation or story admin pages. This is because it counts submissions / stories that you don't have access to. Again, this is on the to-do list for 1.3.8. So what can you do? Check your permissions carefully. You (i.e. your StoryAdmin user) may not have access to some of the topics, e.g. because you are not a member of a certain group. To check the permissions, you may need to log in as the Admin user so that you have access to all the groups, topics, and stories. To summarize: It's not a bug, it's a bug fix. bye, Dirk

Hm. I double checked, and I'm logged in as Admin with full rights, including Story Admin. When I enter a story submisison and click "Preview", I go straight back to the Story List and the submission is gone. No preview. Any thoughts? (Fresh, clean install of 1.3.7sr1)

I should have also mentioned that I can't delete stories (delete goes back to the Story List and the story is still there). Everything else seems to be working fine (Calendar, user management, block admin...)

Now this is a completely different problem. And it has been discussed here several times before.

Some evidence suggests this may even be a problem in PHP. Which version of PHP are you running? If you can, I would be interested to hear if upgrading to PHP 4.3.0 fixes this ...

bye, Dirk

I am getting the same thing. My test user is a member of All users, story admin, topic admin, event admin and logged-in users. I am able to get in to the main story editor (admin/story.php?mode=edit) but once I submit I get the "Sorry, you do not have access to the story administration page" message. I am running PHP 4.2.3 on IIS 5.0

Upgrading to PHP 4.3.0 did not help the cause.. It did however break a bunch of other stuff I now need to debug O:

Not sure about that, I did those checks before posting the report. The story in question is in group Story Admin with Read/Edit rights for Owner and Group. The StoryAdmin user is in groups All Users, Story Admin and Logged-in Users. The Admin user can edit and save the story without problems. My environment is: FreeBSD-4.7, apache-1.3.27, mysql-3.23.54, mod_php4-4.2.3 and geeklog-1.3.7sr1. The addindex.php script was run at my initial 1.3.7 install. Regards, Neil Darlow M.Sc.

*sigh* Please don't confuse the two issues here. If you get "access denied" messages, then you have a problem with the permission settings. Upgrading PHP won't help here. If you can't edit stories at all and you don't get "access denied" messages either, then this is the "enctype" issue. Removing the enctype attribute from the story editor's template file will resolve the problem (and maybe upgrading PHP would help, too). bye, Dirk

Yes, but what about the permissions of the actual stories? Are any of the stories owned by a group that the StoryAdmin is not part of? Same for the topics: Stories posted under a topic will inherit that topic's permissions. bye, Dirk

Found it. The topic to which the story belongs was set to group Topic Admin. Changing the topic group to All Users now permits Story Admin to save changes. Regards, Neil Darlow M.Sc.

well i killed myself till i found this thread ... i knew it was somewhere. it seems to me that i found the solution before i found this thread again ... tnx ndarlow *The topic to which the story belongs was set to group Topic Admin.* as i see things usually people who have the permission on editing stories are Story Admin's, but system does not assume that if they have privilege to modify or post or aprove stories, that they can change the content of topic i.e. stories - that can do only topic admin. so ... i gave all story admins the admin for topics - topic admin ... but ... now they can add topics ... not so good ... ... so ... am i right or am i wrong ... allmost forgot admin save story topic locked unable can't 33 => "Sorry, you do not have access to the block administration page. Please note that all attempts to access unauthorized features are logged", someone will find this ...

I noticed I would get this problem if I did not have any Topics set up yet. Null topic field in the story submission seemed to cause it for me. I added a Topic and the error went away.
