News Modes - Refreshing, Normal etc..

What are these, and is there a way to post a "news" that would never dissapear/become outdated? I want to use this "news" feature to post tutorials/user guides and other various stuff that has nothing to do with news. What are these modes for and can I apply them here?

This is such a frequently asked question that it's answered in the FAQ ...

If you want to post things that aren't stories, you might want to use static pages (see the FAQ as an example).

If I understand you correctly, your whole site is going to be about the tutorials, in which case making everything as static pages doesn't use the full potential of GeekLog (and isn't much fun.) Stories (or tutorials in your case) in GeekLog never actually disappear or expire; they can be bumped off the front page, but they are still there. Try this: scoll to the bottom of the page, and click on 'Next' -- you'll see the next 10 (or whatever your per-page limit is) tutorials. So GeekLog should work just fine for your purpose. One other thing..you might want to mod your layout to include a 'Master List of Tutorials' link, which takes you to a search-results page (you can capture the proper URL by manually performing such a search) with a basic list of all tutorials (essentially, a search for all stories in your 'tutorials' section, using the geeklog search system). Is this what you were looking for?
