I’m currently working on a major update of the Menu plugin for Geeklog, with version 1.3.0 focused first on compatibility, stability and security before adding new features.

The current roadmap includes:

• compatibility with Geeklog 2.1.1 through 2.2.2;
• compatibility with PHP 5.6 through PHP 8.1;
• safe upgrades from Menu 1.2.6, 1.2.7, 1.2.8 and 1.2.8.1;
• better support for single-site and multisite installations;
• migration of plugin data to site-specific storage;
• security improvements for CSRF, SQL handling, output escaping and image uploads;
• cache and performance improvements;
• cleanup of legacy code and dependencies;
• improvements to the administration interface and menu preview;
• preservation of existing menu structures, permissions, custom CSS and uploaded images.

Another important part of the roadmap is improving integration between Menu and modern Geeklog themes.

The goal is to provide a stable theme-facing API that can expose the resolved menu tree — hierarchy, permissions, links, active state and element types — while leaving the actual HTML, responsive navigation, dropdowns and visual presentation to the theme.

This should make it much easier for themes such as Eclipse, and other future themes, to use the Menu plugin as the authoritative source for the site’s main navigation without duplicating menu configuration.

Once the compatibility and stability work is complete, possible additions include JSON import/export, improved multisite workflows, additional link attributes and richer display conditions.

I’d also like feedback from current Geeklog users before 1.3.0 is finalized.

• Are there existing Menu behaviours that absolutely must remain unchanged?

Menu 1.3.0 is now available!

This release brings major compatibility, security and maintenance improvements while preserving existing menus and legacy rendering.

Highlights include Geeklog 2.1.1–2.2.2 support, PHP 5.6–8.1 compatibility, multisite improvements, safer administration, better performance, modern theme integration and a new resolved-tree API.

The upgrade path has also been successfully tested on production sites.
