How to increase the length of the Topic's ID

Hi Guys! I somene can be so kind in telling me hox can i increase the length or the number of characters in the Topic's ID space?

Long time ago, someone told me that i must modify to parameters in the database?

I will appreciate very much for your help.

You can edit size of tid field up to 255 with phpmyadmin.

Ben, Thanks a lot! I just changed the the length of several TIDs in the database and it works fine. I appreciate for your help very much.

Is this a non dangerous thing to do? No template changes necessary? Why are they so short anyway?
