Yesterday, both the Advanced and HTML editor stopped working on our main Geeklog-based news site. If you add text to the form in "text" mode and then choose "Advanced Editor" or "HTML", all the text is blanked out and you can't even put the cursor into an editing box. There is no editing box, just white space. And the second set of menu bars for "body text" don't display at all.

I've replicated this problem in both the latest versions of IE and Firefox. Even replicated the problem on another computer.

We recently moved our server to a new hosting situation, so we've been changing things on the server, but we weren't doing anything yesterday when this problem developed.

I added code for Google Analytics to the header.thtml page on Saturday, but I was editing stories fine after making this change. I removed the code last night and the editor problem is still with us.

Any ideas?

Chuck

Advanced Editor uses JavaScript. Did you change anything on your PCs, Firewall?

No, didn't change anything on the PC. Duplicated problem on another PC. Another volunteer for the project found the problem too.

We are doing a re-install of Geeklog. Kind of weird how these things stop working.

I should add that on a fresh install of geeklog on the same platform the advanced editor worked fine.

Moreover, on the geeklog installation where the problem persists, the advanced editor for story contributors works fine. It's the editing environment in the admin area that the advanced editor fails to load properly. If the advanced editor is deactivated in the geeklog configurations, the remaining editing options, html and plain text work fine.

If that occured from one day to another then there must have been a change somewhere. Did you check your firewall / virus settings?
You may drop me a line with the URL that I could also SEE what happens from my PC.

I've posted a view of what generally appears on the admin story editor when the advanced editor is selected. The default editor is plain text.

As you can see in this example, only part of the interface loads into the page. The textarea is inaccessible and only part of a one of the toolbars appears. Sometimes the toolbar partly loads in the intro text zone and the body text zone is empty. The common toolbar should have two rows of tools. If you select another toolbar in this environment, the behavior is unpredictable.

We installed a month-old version of our database on a test install of Geeklog. The advanced editor is working in that test environment. The advanced editor still doesn't work in our live website. This suggests that something in the database is somehow messing up the Advanced Editor. This sounds bizarre to me, so maybe somebody with more programming and databases experience can suggest a remedy?

Have you tried firebug for firefox to see if there are any javascript errors in your advanced editors pages?

Really hard to diagnose without actually seeing it.
But make sure the templates are not corrupt

Well, your layout/professional/admin/story/storyeditor_advanced.thtml is different than mine.

But I cannot see it in action without at least story admin privis
