Hi, I have my site working fine, but just lately I keep getting users signing up with names like buyviargraaa and oermsoftwarrrre... etc etc... Why is this happening just now after I've had this site up for months? Also, how can I remove these unwanted names from my user list?

Thanks!
Brian

You may try the plugin BadBehavior and also turn the new user submission cue on $_CONF['usersubmission'] = 1; or edit and delete the existing ones

How do I delete existing ones? When I go in to the edit users area the only option i see is to ban them...

Also, what does that submission cue =1 make happen?

Thanks so much!

The user submission queue will work just like the story submission queue, but for new accounts. I.e. new users will have to be approved by an admin before they can log in.

Doesn't really help against those spam accounts, though - you'll still get them, but at least they won't be able to use them.

You could try the CAPTCHA plugin. We use that here on geeklog.net and as long as those accounts are created by a bot, it will stop them.

bye, Dirk

Thanks! How can I get rid of the ones that are already there? So far what I've been doing is just going in and making those screen names "banned".... I'd like to axe them all together. Is that easy?

Thanks again...

If you edit the user, there's also a delete button.

If you have a lot of those, try the Mass Delete option (aka Batch Admin).

bye, Dirk
