What is this Trackback stuff?

Can someone please explain to me what point of "Trackback" is, and why so much integration into GL? Ping back? Is this some kind of complex blogging tool I'm ignorant of? Oops!

I've read the documentation when it was first introduced, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the hassle of setting up such a system. I guess I just don't blog enough to see the value. It seems like RSS would take care of this... Neutral

I find Pingbacks useful to link to follow-up articles (on the same site). See the "Trackbacks last 2 days" section of the What's New block just now 8)
