I just noticed that Flickr supports posting photos to "Atom Feed Enabled" blogs. I tried to set this up with my Geeklog site, but no luck.

Should this work? Is there some trick I don't know about?

The problem with that Flickr option is that it uses WSSE for authentication. But for WSSE authentication, we would need to know the user's password. Geeklog does not store your password - only a hash of your password.

So in short: Nope, it won't work.
