What folder should I store documents?

I have documents I want to store, like word documents in a folder.

I put them in www/docs and created a link www.website.org/docs/documentname.doc

I can click and get to it, but when I try and goback I am prompted for my user name and password to my site!

should they be some place else?

Does this question have anything to do with Geeklog? Because I don't see how Geeklog would be asking you for the username when you click the back button ...
