Hey everybody, I have a newb question for you all (sorry).

On the right side of the homepage, above the poll, there's a block that provides a little welcome message and a couple of links. What do I need to do to modify this? I couldn't find this text anywhere in a language file. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm overlooking but I just can't seem to figure this out

You mean the "About Geeklog" block on a default install? That's just a "normal block". See the "Blocks" entry from your Admin menu.
