OK, one of my site's users are complaining about receiving ntotices about forum posts although they have not checked that box. I am absoluted clueless as what is causing this or what would be doe to fix it. Please help.

Ask them to check their forum subscriptions, http://www.example.com/forum/notify.php. They may have enabled them accidentally.
