What benefits do comment spammers get? I keep deleting comments and stories that are posted on my site, but they keep adding new ones. These spammers must spend more time on my site than I do. I had some comments that I did not find for many months. Do the search engines see these sex and drug links as links to the sites that will help show their popularity?

Spammers don't spend a lot of time with this, actually - they have their bots to do the spamming.

These days, spammers seem to be more interested into actual clickthroughs (to benefit from ads, for example) than page rank. That's also why they often use throwaway domains and URLs that only redirect you to somewhere else.
