I checked the error log this morning, and saw this

Fri Jul 7 05:48:49 2006 - 1226: User '*****' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 50000). SQL in question: DELETE FROM gl_sessions WHERE remote_ip = '220.72.196.94' AND uid = 1

There were about 350 of those error messages between 5:48 and 7:06 (from 4 or 5 different IP addresses), then I got about 150 of these between 7:06 and 7:08:

Fri Jul 7 06:12:31 2006 - 1226: User '*****' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 50000). SQL in question: SELECT pi_name FROM gl_plugins WHERE pi_enabled = 1

Is this someone trying to take advantage of the recent GL exploit or something different? Just curious.

TIA.

The "user" in question is your database user. Your hosting service has imposed a restriction for the max. number of SQL requests that are allowed over a certain time span. If you have a lot of traffic to your site, you may run into that restriction and that message is the result.

As for the cause of the traffic, it could be anything - search engine bots, lots of visitors due to a link on a popular site, spambots, script kiddies, ... Check your webserver logfiles for that period.

bye, Dirk
