stories dont update topic section

I just noticed that when I create a new story, it does not show up in the associated TOPIC. This worked as of 1/31/06 and nothing has changed in my environment. I can see the story if I go into the story section via the admin, and I can see the story in the DB, but for some reason, I can see it when I click on the TOPIC. Changing the topic doesnt help.
Any ideas?
