However can there be a way to generalize this ?

For example, if this can be done for the ADVT plugin, eg by clicking on the
name of the person who has given the AD I can get to the PM page

I tried this but without success as I do not know how to generate the $uid
in the ADVT detail.php or similar files there - PM does not work if linked to
username - it has to be fed in the uid, I guess.

Any help will be more than gratefully acknowledged.

The user id of the current user is available through the global variable $_USER['uid'].

Note that when that variable is not set or is = 1, it's an anonymous user.
