Anonymous users can't see stories

For some reason ....there are stories that are marked for Anonymous reading...but get a system message requesting a login...this is only happening on new stores. any thoughts...
We never stop looking... ...for a better way

Check the topic permissions. They have to be able to see the topic, too.
