a couple or 3 weeks and it should be good to go, at least for testing purposes. I'll send out a few copies for initial testing and feedback before I put up an RC. The image class won't be ready by then however, so it will only support the gdlib. By the 1st RC it should have no problem with the other 2 libs.

That brings me to the question: I think Dirk, or maybe it was just some code comments somewhere, mentioned that more pear packages were going to make it into GL. Anybody wanna comment on if any of pear's image packages will make it in? I guess they wont unless they are going to be used. I know most of them are still alpha, but I was thinking of going that way--though that way may take be a bit longer.

probably the only thing that sucks about this project is doing it by myself.
...and that it isn't done yet.

Yes that does suck. Unfortunately, not being a coder myself...I can only offer my experience as a long time gallery admin during the beta/feature testing stage.

machinari, you might want to be aware, if you are suppoting user comments on images that in the next version of geeklog the comment engine has changed significantly. you might want to test against current cvs to make sure your up to spec.

yes yes.. I have, upon checking out CVS, decided to leave out integration with gl's comment engine until 1.3.12 is released. Therefore I will either integrate my own comment engine (not likely) or re-release the gallery when 1.3.12 comes out (presumming it has been released by then ) having gl's comment engine integrated and, I'm sure, many bug fixes, etc.

For those of you who don't see the problem: 1.3.11's version of the comment engine just isn't fully functional (at least as much as I need it to be) where plugins are concerned, or I'm missing a couple pages of code somewhere.

I have a version of the filemgmt plugin that works with the CVS comment API's available for developers to look at. Just send me a note if you want a copy. I've not done any more testing with it for months and it can certainly do with some more testing.

I'd love to have look. I'll shoot you an email later on today.

As I mentioned earlier, I was thinking about using various pear image packages... Well, I did and now I wish I could read German.
GD is functioning well. I haven't installed NetPBM so haven't tested that yet. ImageMagick is kicking by butt however: first it was an hour with path issues; then it was an hour with various "not found" fatal errors; now I just have no clue. With output buffering Off I still can't get any error report beyond "Image...cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."

By the time I give it up for testing (2 more weekends--this weekend included) it will be functioning with, at the very least, GD. Watermark functions will not be included in that release however--haven't had time to rewrite.

Hey Mach, this gallery seems very awesome and I am really interested in trying it out when it's fully functional, but I have a few questions to ask about it. Right now I have a big menalto gallery setup, are you going to make a mass file add feature like in menalto so that directories of images that have been uploaded to the server can be imported? Also, this is a big shot in the dark, do you have any plans to make a migration utility (shell script?) to migrate albums/images from another gallery (such as menalto). And the most important question for me would be this, how fast do the pages generate? With menalto gallery it can take me up to 5 seconds to generate a page of thumbnails in an album. Sorry for the thousand questions but seeing a proper gallery is being implemented has gotten me a bit excited .

Thanks to my testers (see progress here) the feature of which you speak works like a charm--only one bug left that hopefully my testers will say has been fixed.

I do... In the short term it will probably be a quick and dirty 'get me my media', but the long term should provide (my plan anyway) a more complete migration utility.
Quote by Nav:how fast do the pages generate?
faster than this forum page loaded (i have all posts on one page ) but seriously, my task this week (hopefully done by friday) is to decrease the load time significantly, at the very least for the thumbnail browsing pages.

Thanks for your interest

Thought I'd throw a few more pics out just to keep you interested while awaiting RC1.

The watermark is working! GD only supported atm. here is an example

and, oh yeah, here is the results page of a "scan after FTP session.".

I just wanted to drop a note that this looks fantastic. I've got a quick Gallery page up right now. I've put up a geeklog site at home with some plugins added but have not cut it over to be my live site yet because of the awful gallery plugin that was avialable before.

I also wanted to know if you have a paypal account for contributions. If this thing is as good as it sounds I think there should be some cash headed your way...

Thanks!
