Hey, I have a way-big need to do what the topic said, and I don't really want to go into the database via MySQL to do it...is there anything built-in that will let me move a forum post to another topic? Thanks!

You will be able to do this in version 2.4 of the forum - still in development. I've just completed a few major pieces of work this past weekend on the project. Follow my progress on my site and in particular this post here.
If you have just one post that you want to move. Using phpMyadmin, you will need to find that forum_topic record and make the following changes:
- Set the forum field to the new forum id
- Set the pid to 0 to indicate it is now a parent post (new topic)
- Set the lastupdated field to the same value in the date field
I've added the functionality to split a topic in 2 ways 1) just the one post or 2) All posts from this point.
