curious
I see that a way back between v0.4 and v0.5 the password storing method was changed from crypt to just plain md5. I'm currious as to why? I would like to use unix passwords to authenticate my users to the site, as they already have unix accounts with passwords. I'd like to just load those into the database. However since the passwords are just md5 encoded, instead of actually crypted with md5, this doesnt work. I'm thinking I'll just hack the code to make it work, but I'm currious if there is some underlying reason for the switch that I am missing.

Thanks.

That was before my time on the project, so I can't say. But the PHP manual page for crypt mentions something about passwords effectively being limited to 8 characters when using crypt, so that may have played a role ...
