I have done 2 backup and get this
geeklog_db_backup_2004_11_10.sql 0 Bytes
geeklog_db_backup_2004_10_07.sql 0 Bytes
Total number of backups: 2
I seem to remember reading that there was a problem with the back up with sr2. I have done one back up manually but don't remember how I did it. I think I used phpmyadmin. I have had to rebuiled about 50 static pages once so far because of no back up.

The problem of 0 byte backups is not specific to any Geeklog version. It has to do with permissions on the server (The webserver / PHP calling an external application which in turn wants to write into a file / directory often owned by the webserver ...).
If you can't figure it out, phpMyAdmin has a backup option. Or try out this plugin.
bye, Dirk

I am using a command line to back up about 20 databases which seems to work ok. It really shouldn't have any issues writing to any directory since I am sitting right here at the server.
Here is the commmand line in a bat file (db_dump.bat) which I run in the mysql bin directory.
mysqldump geeklog > geeklog.sql
mysqldump geeklog2 > geeklog2.sql
mysqldump member > member.sql
etc
etc
So now that I have a good backup I guess I can upgrade to 1.3.10rc3.

The problem isn't you having write access to the backups directory, it's your web process. Are you using IIS or apache?

Why not go with 1.3.10 final?
