My syndication feed (rss) resets to be blank

I'm not sure if this is the way it's supposed to work or not - but I have to "resave" my syndication file creation every day, else my link to the newsfeed is "blank". Is there a setting I missed?

Can you rephrase that? I'm not sure I understand what your problem is. Are you saying that your RSS file is empty?

bye, Dirk

That's what I get for posting before I'm fully awake.

What I meant to say was... two days ago I setup my syndication link and verified (by checking the link) that it contained my story links and the intro content as I had set it to do. All was well.

Yesterday morning I checked the url link to the feed and found that it was empty. I went back to the syndication setup and "saved" my settings again. I then checked my link and all was well.

This morning, my feed was empty again. I resaved the settings, and then rechecked the link. All was then fine.

My file is now, just a few hours later, blank again.

You can check for the feed (I made a static page to check my own feed contents) if you click here.

I'm not sure what to do to keep my feed from going blank all the time.

Hmm, anything in error.log?

I don't think Geeklog can even produce an empty feed file (unless it had problems writing to the file, which should show up in the error.log). Even if it couldn't find any stories, it would at least write the RSS header.

Could there be anything server-side that also accesses this file?

bye, Dirk

There is nothing in the error log.

When I changed the name of my output file from geeklog.rdf to dndmmorpgnews.rdf I did have a few errors regarding not being able to find the "geeklog.rdf" file - but then I changed the name for the file in the config.php area and all errors went away.

There's nothing on my server, to my knowledge, that is accessing this file other than my static page which is only trying to read the file.

I just "resaved" my settings in the syndication link from the admin block - and you can see that now the page I linked has my story contents. I'm not sure what the heck is going on.

Is there a way to tell geeklog how often to update the outgoing rss feed?

Hrm... two days ago my feed validated, today it does not. I get this error when I check validation:

Sorry
This feed does not validate.

line 19, column 14: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x93 in position 724: unexpected code byte (maybe a high-bit character?) [help]

?The calculations used for computing rewards are based on the q ... ^
Non-RSS 1.0 feeds should not be served with the "application/rdf+xml" media type [help]

I'm wondering then, if the problem is that the rss output is not able to deal with quotation marks (as the line cited starts with a quotation mark).

I changed my output syndication rdf to not include the story intro, and sure enough, the feed now validates (though I still get the "Non-RSS 1.0 feeds should not be served with the "application/rdf+xml" media type" error) I'll check in a few hours to see if the feed "empties" or if it remains in tact.

If it remains in tact then I guess the problem is with parsing quotation marks?

Ok, well, that doesn't help - the rss feed from my site keeps going empty.

*sigh*

When it's empty the rss validator returns this error:

Sorry
This feed does not validate.

line 1, column 0: XML Parsing error: :1:0: no element found [help]

Source: http://www.dndmmorpg.com/backend/dndmmorpgnews.rdf

When I resave my syndication settings, the validator shows no error other than the warning that "Non-RSS 1.0 feeds should not be served with the "application/rdf+xml" media type"

Bleh.
