Portal Blocks

Yes, the tired subject of Portal Blocks. I've searched this site and googled (finding alot of geeklogs with similar problems) and have only been able to find a few suggestions.

I've done all the suggestions, and am still left with the informative error of: Geeklog can not reach the feed at...

I've checked the allow_url_fopen within PHP, and it's set to on. I've set it within php.ini, and I've tried setting up a .htaccess file with php_flag allow_url_fopen on .

I've tried every suggestion I've come across with no luck. I control the whole server, so if there are any additional fixes that may be applied to resolve this problem, please feel free to suggest them.

It's a FreeBSD 5.2.1 Server
Running Apache 1.3.31
Compiled w/ PHP 4.3.8
Running GeekLog 1.3.9.sr1

Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks. -Tom

I'm trying to get to the thinkgeek.com and am able to pull down the feed file via lynx but, not through geeklog.

Have you restarted the server afterwards?

Yes, I've restarted apache.

I just restarted it for grins and giggles, I deleted the thinkgeek block, and recreated it. The results were the same.

Works for me (locally: MacOS X, Apache 1.3.31, PHP 5.0.1).

Thanks for the confirmation that it's a working feed, but I was pretty sure it was working from the thinkgeek side.

Is there a special / specific location the .htaccess file would go to allow it to take effect? I have it currently at the base of my htdocs folder which is the base of my geeklog installation.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Since it's your own server: Why not enable it in php.ini directly?

bye, Dirk

It is enabled within php.ini, and as I stated originally, the phpinfo() says that allow_url_fopen is "on".

Basicly, I'm grasping for straws.

I think I'm going to upgrade to PHP5 and give it a try. I think this may be a bug in my version of PHP.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Upgrading to PHP 5 solved the problem, my feed is working now.

Thanks for the insight folks.
