so I pretty much have my site looking and acting the way I want it to EXCEPT... for some reason, none of the allowable html tags seem to be working for me. I added "img" for admin use only, but I haven't done anything else that I know of that could have disabled html. Is there a place I need to enable it?

If you look at it you will see bare html code in the story posts.

This might be too easy but the default format for stories in geeklog is plain text. If you don't save them as html formatted then they will appear as you put it as "bare html". I logged on to your site and posted a comment with an html tag and it worked fine.

Remember to save your stories and comments as html.

It's just that simple.

Btw, you can change the default in config.php:

$_CONF['postmode'] = 'plaintext'; // can be 'plaintext' or 'html'
