Cannot post stories or comments

I receive the following error when trying to submit a story as any user (admin or story admin user): You are trying to access a story that you don't have rights to. This attempt has been logged. Please go back to the story administration screen.

I am also unable to post comments as any user.

This is on a fresh install of 1.3.8-1sr3. I even installed the update files. I do have Gallery 1.4.1 integrated with Geeklog. It appears to be working correctly.

As the Admin, you should never see this message. As a story admin, you may need to change the topic permissions so that the story admin user has access to the topic as well.

As for the comment posting: What exactly happens when you try?

bye, Dirk

After posting the comment, it returns to the front page.

Any idea on the actual not being able to post story problem?

Erm, I did answer that one above ...

Also, are you sure you have register_globals = on?

bye, Dirk

resgister_global = on is set.

I went back through the install guide...
I installed geeklog to /var/geeklog and the public_html is at /var/www/html.
I chown'ed the dirs to apache:apache.
I set the permissions on the dirs to 775 as recommended. I even tried 777.
I verified Edit permission was set for Group under Topic Editor.
Logged in as Admin and cannot post story or comment to the welcome article.

I removed my original install. I reinstalled following the installation directions. I setup geeklog in /var/www/geeklog/ and public_html in /var/www/html/. I've configured all my paths correctly and setup the permissions as required. Verified register_globals = on. I am able to create polls, events and links. I can create new topics, but not post to them. I cannot post new stories or comments as any user, even Admin. I tried setting up a story admin for the topic, but could not post as that user either.

When I setup my server I named it test.company.com. I made the correct entry for $_CONF['site_url']. When I changed the name to www.company.com, I am able to post stories. It appears to ignore a nonstandard site url. How can I correct this?

Did you see the FAQ entry on login problems? It may explain some of the things you're seing.

I'm was having exactly the same problem

Apache 2.0.48

PHP-4.3.4

MYSQL-4.0.17

all fresh installs on a base RH9 setup (turned off the old stuff)

I can see the new databases in the /usr/local/mysql/data area and the files are updated when I add a user, etc. - but nobody, including admin and moderator can add/delete articles or events

When showing the list of articles to edit, clicking on the number did nothing.

The fix - as Dirk notes above was to set register_globals = On and restart the web server so that it picks up the new php.ini settings!
