Problems with Blocks after site move

confused
Hi,

I just moved my GL site over to another host (pSek) this past weekend. I had pSek install GL for me as I needed to do a version upgrade anywho.

I copied over the DB using MySQLFront's db to db export feature.

I copied over the pertinent lib-common.php and config.php files and updated them with the new GL DB settings/paths.

The site shows up and the data is all there, except the left&right blocks are not in the order or preference that I had from the previous hosting environment.

Is there a file or setting that I missed that would cause this?

Thanks,

Lou

What version did you upgrade from?

The block order information is stored in the gl_blocks table, so if the blocks themselves are avaliable, then it appears that teh blocks table must have gotten moved over successfully, but somehow either lost the information from those columns? Look at your table to determine if block order infor still exists.

I am not familiar with pre 1.3.8 versions of geeklog, but I would assume it is possible that they stored the block order differently. Were you upgrading from 1.3.7 or earlier? Also, what do you mean by 'preference' when you said:

Version 1.38

Look at your table to determine if block order infor still exists.

I will check that soon.

It was 1.3.8 and by preferences, I mean I want this block on the left side, in the 3rd position, I want that block to not appear at all, I want another block to be in the right column and be on top, etc...

Thanks,

Lou

How exactly are the blocks being displayed right now? Are they all on the right, in random order? Did your permissions transfer over? (I.e. if you had blocks that were only supposed to be visible to particular groups, are those settings still in place?) Are your blocks just not showing up at all? If you create new blocks can you set preferences in them? Or does the problem apply even to new blocks?

Any additional information you can provide would be great,

The blocks are equally distributed left and right. Relatively random order compared to how I had them setup on old site.

There are some block that are part of the default Geeklog install (R U Secure, Geeklog Poll, etc) that I do not have active but are still there. There are new blocks that I made that do not show up at all, even in the admin/blocks area. And then the locations of the blocks are not as I had them (who's online show up in the right column when I had it in the
left, etc.) And there are topics in the 'topics' block that I had removed.

Me thinks that the fact that the DB had data/tables in it from the default install by the new hosting folks somehow conflicted or overrode the DB transfer that I performed. I think I will zap out the gl_blocks table and re-import just that table into the new site to see if that works.

Thanks,

Lou

I think I have it under control now. It appears I was seeing remnants of the original install that did not get overwritten properly when I copied the DB over. I thank you for your time and effort - it pointed me in the right direction and got the old braincells working again!

Thanks,

Lou

ps. - my site is at least 3 times faster now that it is on pSek. Especially the admin areas.
