limiting characters in subject line

I've noticed on a new theme I am working on, depending on how many characters are in the title of a story, depends on how wide the entire page is.
If it is not possible to limit characters within a subjects title, I would like to request an option to do so. This would definitely help in situations where mods tend to get wordy in their subject line.
