1105: File './geeklog/gl_userprefs.MYD' not found (Errcode: 23)

I'm having trouble installing geeklog. I get to stage 2 of
install.php, and I get the message in the subject heading.
Any ideas what is wrong? mysql does create /var/mysql/geeklog/gl_userprefs.MYD. could there be a permissions
problem on these files?
