Another GL user and I are starting work on a plugin for GL that will allow sites to access mySql databases through a security controled and themable interface. This is a plugin that I believe is very badly needed both for my personal projects as well as for the GL community. It will allow admins to set up databases, control who can edit/add records, as well as what types or data are acceptable. The question is what should we name it?we were thinking people would rather not have the word "geek" in the urls of their sites, so geekDB is out. Also if anyone any ideas for features they want, post them as comments. Thanks
I work for a Wilmington NC Attorney
Why not just GDB? Or GLDB?
Why does the name matter at all? Make it configurable, and the user can call it whatever they want (just like they can rename the admin directory, etc).
Here are a couple of DBs that could just be edited and plugged in. Arkitus OpenDb

I use Webmin's MySql database module, to create, edit,
manage raw MySQL DB data, tables and fields. Is that what
you are trying to duplicate?
Why not use it? Or what would your plug-in do that it
wouldn't. I just hate to see people re-invent the wheel,
especially if it's just a admin function and not a totally new
user interface.
The purpose of this plugin isn't to duplicate (or even come close) to an administrative system, it's merely to enable visitors to a site to browse a simple MySQL table. The package we are porting to Geeklog is DaDaBIK. We're not ready for a public release yet, but it's getting close!

I hate to be a killjoy, but would there be any advantage to using
this over phpMyAdmin? PMA is an extremely well-crafted piece of
work - that's what I use when I'm doing PHP/mySQL work.
WebMin's thing is OK, but it's a little awkward, and doesn't offer the
bevy of features that PMA does (PDF output, automated SQL code
writing, InnoDB management, etc)
I mean - it'd be nice to integrate into GL and all, but it'd be tough to
out-do phpMyAdmin. ya know?
Hey Ruatha - how about PernDB ? Actually, NADBAT - Not Another DataBase Admin Tool - or YADU - Yet Another Database Utility - or ....

I don't think they are trying to out do phpMyAdmin, but just give some basic capability. It's always nice if you can hit a couple buttons in the app you're running without having to go to another one. Plus some people use the command line or other products which may be more clumsy to bring up just to do a simple thing.
