Story Submission Time
Anonymous
Anonymous
I installed the code that causes the site to work in another timezone... in my case, EST.
Everything works, except story submissions...
As I am submitting a story, the current time is displayed (EST)...
AFTER I submit it, though, it is saved with the time three hours IN THE FUTURE, causing the server to wait 3 hours for the story to appear.
I can offset this my manually setting the time back three hours when I initially submit the story, but the site is not for me. It's for a church and anywhere from 5-20 people are going to be submitting stories rather regularly... I need a fix.
I can't seem to locate the code where I can hard-code a "-3" in there or something... can someone help me out please?

This is the first I have heard of this. Hardcoding is not the answer. Try picking about the code in admin/story.php that generates the timestamp and verify that the timestamp given from the system OS is valid. Are you 100% sure the time on you server is correct? Are you sure the server is using the right locale?---The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

The server time is right. Other people have brought this up before and I can't believe a fix hasn't been posted, beyond the regular timezone hack... I mean a fix to the offset time problem.
Since time is such an integrated part of the software, I imagine we must wait until v2 for a real fix.

Wait a minute -- how much did you pay for this software? You are talking like an irate customer. I know that Tony, Dirk and the other developers would be thankful for even a good meal as payment for all the hours they have put in. Instead what do they get -- "I can't believe you have not fixed this yet!" Fix it yourself and offer the fix to others.

My thought to correct your problem, is this. If you are not satisfied with any suggestions or answers that is provided by people who spend countless hours working on these and other projects than uninstall geeklog and please post no further. People who complain countless hours for a fix can just as well spend the time being productive and troubleshooting and looking for the fix themselves.

Guys, guys... why so jumpy?
Maybe it's me, but I didn't get any "irate customer" vibe off these posts. All I see is someone desperately looking for a fix. We all know how major a problem seems when we're the one bumping into it, right?
(I'm not a programmer, so I'm kind of on the outside of this little community. But as Geeklog's userbase grows, those of you making it happen are going to see more and more of these types of requests coming in. Having an organized, user-friendly way to respond to them may be something to think about...)
Oh, and thanks, developers, for a great product!
