Try inputting a $ sign followed by 3 or 4 numbers. You'll discover that the 'dollar' and the first two digits will go missing in the final output. What you will get is only the text after that.

Yes, I have noticed this too.
I mentioned it to the developers in #geeklog@irc.openprojects.net and they are aware of it. I think its one of the goodies we should see fixed in 1.4... Dirk, can you confirm? I believe it was you who ack'ed the bug.
The use of dollar signs in the text is already fixed in CVS. However, it still doesn't work properly in titles. But since someone already filed that as a bug report, I would assume that it will be fixed in 1.3.6 ...

There is a bonehead fix if you want to use it. Insert a space between the dollar sign and the numbers. It should work....
$ 1,000,000 dollars.
Viola!
