Has anyone thought of incorporating an expiration date for stories and other objects like static pages? I think this would be good for taking GL well beyond a weblog to a CMS platform. Thanks to all for developing a great product.

Can you explain in more detail your idea? I've seen some sites use expiration dates for adding comments to stories or to close polls which I think is a good feature to add. I'm not sure what the benefit is to doing something like this to static pages and stories.

I'm assuming that to use GL as corporate website/portal the topics and stories would represent the content for the site.

Content that has "expirations" may include: Product Promotions (involving offers that expire on a certain date) Event Descriptions and Notices (I know that this crosses into the Calendar function) News (that should be archived or moved "off the front page")

In general, it's easier to set an expiration date when the content is being created rather than having outdated material remain on your site. (This is also related to a company's Records Managment policy but that's probably taking it a little too far.)

I have created a plugin called Issues... this may fit your requirement.

Issues was designed to make my geeklog site into a monthly newsletter.

Issues, like static pages have a content page. I extended the story page to include an "issue_id" column. The front page only displays stories that are for the current issue.

I also created two blocks: Current Issue, an index of the stories for this issue... and a Newsletter Issues block that includes a javascript jump dropdown that displays the available issues.

I haven't completed packaging the plugin - but intend to do this over the next few weeks. Interest will guage how fast I complete the package.

Let me know if you find this of interest.

Okay, that makes sense. Yes, it would be a nice feature for those with that type of content.

Has this ever gotten anywhere? It would be nice to have a feature that would allow a Front Page story to expire from the front page on a given date/time and remain in the Topic/Section...
