The new caching template software, coming with GL 2.1.0, breaks backward compatibility.
Using variables like 'lang.about' or 'doc:intro' (notice the period and the colon in the names) are not allowed any more. Besides alphabetic and digit, the only other characters are the dash, underscore and square brackets. Also no spaces allowed.

See http://wiki.geeklog.net/index.php/Caching_Template_Library .

The text is not mentioning the square brackets and the spaces.
You may search the template.class.php file on '-\w' to see how this is done.

Beware!
